Hard Drive Failure Early Warning Signs

If your computer is having some of these signs, it might be close to a  Hard Drive Failure.

1.    Suddenly you hear a high-pitched whimpering, loud sound or grinding noises from the hard drive.

A hard drive that is normally functioning will have a smooth spinning sound all the time whether it is up or down. Nonetheless, if the drive has a clicking or grinding sound (the heads of Read/Write is very near to the magnetic platters), the hard drive failure has higher chances.

2.    You regularly see the ever-famous “Blue Screen of Death”.

Regularly a BSODs can be fixed with a delicate Windows operating system’s “Repair Install” or by taking out any driver that is proven harmful. But if these shortcut fixes will not last for a long time, your hard drive will suffer from a failure soon enough.

3.    There are higher chances that your computer will reboot.

Due to hard drive failure, your system can and will reboot permanently.

4.    Frequent hang ups and freezes being encountered by your system.

Just when you are working just fine, then suddenly your computer hang up or is restarting. The program stopped on you. The mouse and the keyboard seem to not respond at all. The only solution with that problem is to reboot the computer by holding on the power button.

5.    Error message: There is no format in the hard drive.

This message is the one that you might end up receiving when you restart your computer. Then, you will restart it again for a number of times, but the error is a definite sign that you are real close in having a  hard drive failure.

6.    Error message: device or boot drive not found or there is no access to drive.

Make sure that there is no disc inside the floppy drive or the CD/DVD trays. You might also check the BIOS to ensure that the system is booting in the hard drive mode and if the hard drive is listed. If this will not fix it your drive might have gone “buy-buy” already.

7.    Errors: Missing Operating System or Operating system not found

Mainly, your PC will no longer have the capacity to detect the hard drive or if the drive is heavily damaged to read (DOA). The system is unable to start.

Hard Drive Failure – What to do next?

First and foremost; MAKE BACKUP OF YOUR FILES NOW! If you have to put it in to a different computer to do the back up. You can also use devices like a dock station which allows you to dock your hard drive in and connect it to a computer via usb cable.

Then, make a boot disk and run the Windows Scan disk and set it up to get rid of errors automatically. If it located more than any bad sectors, then go up above for reference.

It is highly-recommendable to eliminate the defected hard drive out of the system and try to put it into another computer. In that way, you can have all tools that you need and you can put up essential extra diagnostic programs.

Thirdly, if you are too close in ending up to a hard drive failure, download and utilize diagnostic programs for hard drive.  All the top manufacturers of hard drive have given out free utilities into their websites. You need to fix all errors and refer to point 1. We just hope it will not end into a complete hard drive failure.
